Japan

Well, Cody has now been in Japan for 1 wk. Heard from him the day after he got there. A wonderful Officer allowed Cody to use his cell to call me and tell me that his ship was leaving port that morning.

It seems strange to know that my son is in another country half way around the world. My heart feels empty most of the time, knowing that being able to visit him is next to impossible with him being so far away.

I now watch the news more closely and gleen the internet for word of what is happening in Asia. This thing that is happening with the 2 Korea's scare me quite alot. I wonder what role our Navy will play in this conflict if it does happen.

So here I wait, and hope for a call on skype, a message on facebook, an email anything to let me know how he is. If all is well. Something. He hasn't even had time to get me a message as to how to mail anything to him. I hate waiting. But I am learning patience.

Comment by Cora on May 30, 2010 at 4:42pm: I am assuming your son is on the USS GW right now . My sailor daughter has been in japan since aug 1st last year and is also out on the GW right now. You can follow the GW on facebook which i recomend as it will make things easier for you while he is away on the carrier at sea. however when he is in port he can talk to you on skype via webcam and it is great and next best thing to be there with him. When on the ship they can only communicate via Navy email. What does your son do in the Navy? Whats his rate. my daughter is an Aviation Machinist Mate Aircrewman and works on the Flight Deck assisting Pilots. keep up on navydads japan dads group and USS GW group will help ease your emptiness. it has done me a world of good here!

Chat on Navy Dads

The chat feature on Navy Dads has changed a little. To enter into the chat room click on were it says Navy Dads (44 members online) then type your post in the box and hit enter to make the post show up. When you are done click the the arrow by the person icon and the chat box will be hidden again. The chat feature can also be found on the main page. Just scroll down till you see it. The chat will also make a two note sound when someone posts a comment so you know when the chat is active.…
