Navy Dads

I am in need of some advice,my wife and I just found out our daughter who is active duty,e3 was raped! She says ncis is envolved and it is being handled internally by navy but I feel like there should be something else I need to do or should do,where her duty station is there are 70+ cases going on right now, this is an epedimic that has to stop! I literally cried when she told me,she has only been in a year and this happens, any advice would be helpful, thank you!

She didn't report this? Which is ok , most don't . Don't only let it be handled internally that's the worse thing you can do for her. She still has civilian rights, don't let her forget that. How is she coping? Has she gotten an evaluation mental health and physical health any new body pains unexplainable problems focusing?? She can be taken care of if she files a claim and then files a claim with the VA , And be truthful about how she is coping. She can sue her attacker. When did she first report this?

Oh my god Rick - I can't imagine what your daughter is going through right now and you and your wife too.  This kind of stuff just makes me so angry I don't even know what to say.  I'm so, so, sorry - this breaks my heart.  I'm sure you will support her in every way she needs but understand this is going to be a long process for her...we will be praying for her.  (as the parents of 2 sons we constantly talked to our boys about respecting women and how to treat them.....NO MEANS NO). Please update us as you feel able to....hugs to all of you.

I found this link: http://www.npc.navy.mil/bupers-npc/support/21st_Century_Sailor/sapr...

it's designed for sailors to use, but you may find some resources and find some suggestions for your daughter.

Rick- I have few words that could console you, but want you to know you have my total support and offer prayers for your daughter and for your family.  Having had a daughter in the Navy I am aghast that there are sailors that would treat one of their shipmates that way.  I have few suggestions- NCIS is involved and they must be the lead in the investigative end. The voice of victims and their families can speak the loudest---have you considered making sure your Government leaders know about the  epidemic and pestering them until they take notice.  Raise your voice in your church and community....we are discussing ways to give resources to others that may be dealing with similar circumstances but have not said anything.  Your suggestions to Tom or myself or any admin would be a great help in doing so.

Here is a resource that may be able to help...

Safe Helpline can also connect you with the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) on your installation/base, and other military and civilian resources in your area. To find this information you can search online or text your zip code or installation/base name to 55-247 (inside the U.S.) (Message and data rates may apply) or 202-470-5546 (outside the U.S.).

  • Get help online or call 877-995-5247 (the phone number is the same inside the U.S. or via the Defense Switched Network [DSN]) or through the SHL mobile application.

My God.....I can't begin to imagine your pain! All you can do is support and love your Daughter...She is going to need to lean on you & Mom in order to get through this. Please offer her the support of all of us parents who share your grief...My tears flow for her.....
