FINAL FOUR !!!

Our VINSON Idol competitors performed on the stage to conclude the Steel Beach.  Before the day we had three male and female competitors--by the end we were down to four total.  The talent on the ship is quite impressive and the voting was close.  Unlike the real show, many of the competitors on VINSON Idol end up singing background vocals for each other.  They have truly enjoyed the spirit of the competition and haven't taken themselves or the rivalry too seriously.

Tom and Byron/Tyler's GP  Thank you for responding to me.  It is funny 23 years ago I was stationed in Korea and I can only imagine now how my parents worried.  My son is very confident and independent.  I know he will be fine, but obviously it is great to know that he can communicate with us while he is on the ship.  He has not called us yet, but I am sure it is because he is busy getting oriented.  Thanks for welcoming me.

Welcome Greg! I would guess that he will be aboard within a few days. They use e-mail and social media as well as payphones on board to talk to home. I would imagine that any orientation will be given once he has met the ship. Here is a link for you to check out. Capt. Thomas does a regular posting to keep the folks at home abreast of what they are up to...

Hey wanted to get any info that a parent can provide who has a son or daughter on the Carl Vinson.  My son just deployed and flew out yesterday.  I do not know what to expect.  How quickly to they get on the ship and how do they communicate Email, phone etc.  Is their an orientation period prior to going on the ship or do they go straight there from the airport.  I am curious, and he had no information prior to going. Thanks
