Navy Dads

My son left for boot camp on the 16th. Received his phone call that night and I was OK, proud, happy for him but really sad for me and my younger son because we were never apart like this. What is helping me was the "speech" that my son gave me before he left and he said "mom, please don't stress over this to much, don't cry to much because, I am not going to jail, I am not dead, I am going to do something that I always wanted to do, I am going to make great life for myself and I am going to make a difference and do something meaningful". And that is when I realized he is correct and that I did a good job raising him but as a single mom I couldn't teach him any of that "manly" stuff and now he is going to learn that the best possible way. He is going to become a man under supervision of the best "manly" man out there. I have realized that the worst thing in all of this is this no contact time but that is going to pass and when I see him in June he is going to be a real MAN, not my 6'4" boy anymore. And another thing that is helping me might be weird for someone but it works for me, if he went to college somewhere in a different state that would be worst then this. I wouldn't know what is he doing with his time, is he eating, sleeping, who is he hanging out with, but knowing that he is in the place where all of that is planned for him and all of his time is programed to do something productive, knowing that he has 3 meals a day, that his clothes is washed and that his bed is made and that there are a lot of people watching over him...that is what gives me piece of mind. God bless and watch over all of our kids and please God give them strength to fulfill their dreams.

what a beautiful msg I too raised my sailor alone before i married again I was both his mom and dad and til this day I get compliments on what a wonderful young man I raised with the love and faith of our savior I too preferred military over college at least his not out with many girls and getting drunk on the wkends unlike the navy and their rules while training It too was the hardest thing I did to let go and let god take over I see my son more and Im very blessed on how much he s accomplished at such a young age my younger sons look up to big brother and Im applying the same formula on them :) congrats to you T!

Thank you Hello2u and Jim ... I really am blessed with my boys and the life I've made for us in this country. We never had a lot but thank God we always had what we needed. My son joining the Navy is one way of us showing our thanks. Jim thank you for that website, it really helps to see and have some kind of idea what they are going thru... God bless you all and thank you for your kind words

Tihana, your son's statement expresses the sentiment of the small percentage of young men and women that stand tall and protect our nation. My grandson never had a direction in life until he decided to join the navy. He got himself in shape and did the work to make it happen. He is excited and motivated and I am a proud papaw. You did something right with your son, and he wants to give back, America needs more like him and the rest who serve.

The best thing I did for my grandson was to take him to a reunion for the 76th Inf Div. in 2007, where he saw the character and pride of the veterans that have served our nation. My uncle fought with the 76th ID in WWII and died in Germany.  I never realized the impact on him until this past 6 months. I offer my prayers for your son and all who serve, for their safety and health. They are special!!

Thank you so much for your kind words. Raising my kids to be good, honest and stand up citizens was the best thing that I ever did in my life. He choose the life where he can make a difference and I am proud of that. I still have one more son to get thru the "crazy" years (he is 10) but I do believe he also will be fine young man. Yesterday he was going to school and they have some kind of testing done these 3 days and he wanted to take a picture of his big brother with him to help him :). God bless all of our kids and military families.
