Navy Dads

Morning all of you lovely parents and supporters of our SRs. this morning at 6:12 phone rang and it was my son. First "real" phone call since he left on the 16th. He is doing good, sounded good also. His boot camp started on the 28th cause they didn't have enough recruits to form a division. I am so so so happy now. I am so grateful for all of your support and info that you are sharing with everyone to help us get thru.

I remember those days my cell phone was duct tape to my hand lol im glad you got a call now your recharged til the next one no more bird with a broken wing :)

:) it is amazing how hearing his voice can make everything better, even this gloomy Washington morning feels like an amazing summer day

Tihana,

So happy you got your call!  During Basic Training there is so little we, as parents, can know about in terms of how our sailor recruit is feeling.  Regrettably, depending on your son's assignment after basic, in many ways it does not get better (especially for us with sons).  One thing that you have probably already heard is writing is VERY important.  My wife bought a ton of post cards, many of which were funny ones, made up "self adhesive" address labels so we could put them on fast and easy, and we sent short notes often.  The funny ones were passed around which helped build camaraderie. The point being Basic is often a lonely time so having a post card or letter to hold helped our son.

Know your son will be in my prayers this Sunday and I wish him and you the very best!

Rich

Thank you Richard, especially for the prayers because I work every Sunday and don't get to church often. I do pray everyday for all of our recruits and soldiers that gives them strength to get thru everything and stay safe and positive. I just went to the store and got bunch of funny uplifting cards to send him. This phone call was like a Christmas present for me.

The calls will get rare as he enters the fleet...last call from my son was 3/9 as they left Norfolk for cruise....expect it will be awhile before I get another as they are somewhere in the Mideast....it's part of having military kids and you will get used to it.

just an fyi becareful on the postcards if your recruit is in special ops the div is a bit conservative and dont need to call attention to your recruit with postcards simple plain letter envelopes with no stickers is best trust me heard it from the inside scoop

Thank you for advice. He is not in special ops and cards are just encouragement type. I've sent two yesterday and just wrote bunch of clean funny jokes, without any personal messages, that way he can share it
