I didn't see a discussion yet for this class, hope I'm not stepping on someone's toes by starting one. My son Michael reported in for the class on Sunday, they were advised that it wasn't going to start until Tuesday, because of hurricane Irene. I…Continue

Just joining in the thread. My son started 15 Feb, believe from some earlier posts it is Class 14-10. Other than quick phone call second night, haven't heard anything. No news is good news, I hope.

Comment by NavyDads Co-Admin, Jim on April 11, 2012 at 8:54pm Hello men! If you notice above in the masthead of the group, I have added a few links. We are going to continue to build up this group a bit more. Eventually we would like to see as much information here as you might find in our boot camp group. We have some dads who have some question that we find difficult to answer. So any and all suggestions of what you would like to see here are most welcome!
Comment by GANavyDad on February 3, 2012 at 7:21pm Great to hear Jake had his wisdom teeth out already so he avoided that. He did have to have fillins drilled out and replaced since he was SNA. Calebs back out on the Bush doing certif cruse and Jakes hoping for better weather for flyin trying to finish phase 1 and start phase 2. Tactical stuff.
Comment by haseebmd05 on February 3, 2012 at 2:46pm Yes I got a email today from him saying they were setting up his email account and also a letter. He said he has to get his wisdom teeth removed in week 9. Things are a little better, but its still very stressfull. Hes also lost his voice due to the yelling. He doesnt know when he will be able to call but will write us soon. So good to hear from him. I think ive read the letter over a million times. Thanks for asking. how are your boys doing?

Comment by haseebmd05 on January 24, 2012 at 9:43pm Thanks! As soon as i hear something I will let you guys know. I know he has some phone cards and stamps with him but he might not have access to them yet so i will attach one in the letter i send him. Very sweet of your son to keep you letters.
Comment by GANavyDad on January 24, 2012 at 6:35pm Yeah it is tough. I was very worried about my son. I did not think he would do well with the mind games but he supprised me. I got an e-mail the friday after he left just a short one when he got to set up his email but they can use it again till like week 7 or 8. Got my frist phone call after I think the third week and only three letter from him. Keep in mind they are very busy and do not pressure him to write. When he calls the connection is terrible so just lisen he is limited on time and you will only understand about every other word but just be there. Remember NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS I know it is hard but believe me he is in good hands and will be just fine. Might want to send him a couple of phone cards and some stamps. Also send your phone number with todays cell phones no one remembers numbers. I was the only one in the family to get an email because he just remembered mine. he was very glad I sent him everyones phone number. I would include a motivative quote in every letter and closed with the reminder that Gold Bars awaited him at the end, To this day he still has every letter I sent, and yes I wrote just about everyday. Some letters were just a couple of lines but he loved them all.
Comment by haseebmd05 on January 24, 2012 at 6:16pm Thank you Ganavydad. Wow your must be very proud of your 2 sons. Im glad to hear they are doing so well. I wrote to my son yesterday and again today so when he can finally write he will have many letters to read. Thanks for the advice about the sports clippings. I will def do that. I will check on facebook as well. Thank you for your advice. Its just hard not being able to talk to him and encouraging him.
Comment by GANavyDad on January 24, 2012 at 6:10pm Welcome haseebmd05 my son graduated OCS 13-10 April 2010 First congrads on your LO' s being selected to OCS it is not an easy journey he has choosen. I am amazed at what these young men and women acheive. My son left Jan 19 2010 so we are coming up on two years. He is SNA and is currently in Meridian, MS training to fly Jets tailhook. It has been some journey and still along way to go. I also have a son that is an AE3 assigned to HSC-9 a helo squadron that just got back from their first deployment with the USS Bush CVN77. So I get to see both sides Enlisted and Officer. The best advice I can give you is write write and then write some more. My son thought I was silly mailing him a letter the day he left but when they got mail for the first time he said he was so glad to get so many letters. You can send newspaper articals, sports scores anything he would enjoy they are totally closed off from the outside world so anything is great. Just print it on printer paper and keep the envolope thin. White paper white envolope notting that will stand out and draw atention from the DI. You will not hear from him much till after RLP after that it gets alot better. I suggest you see if there is a Family Facebook page for the class you will learn alot there. if I can be of any help feel free to email me harrisga@comcast.net. Godspeed and Graduation will be here before you know it.
Comment by haseebmd05 on January 23, 2012 at 5:30pm Anyone have a loved on in the Newport OCS Class of 9-12. I hope to hear from my son soon.
Comment by Mark Pennington on October 30, 2011 at 3:11pm My son just graduated this last friday from OCS class 02-12, honor class. Was a wonderful experience at the graduation, went and ate at the chowhall with our son the morning of graduation, was too cold out to see them get destroyed by their Gunny lol.. but the slideshow at graduation was fun to see. Meeting the staff was a proud moment for me allowing me an opportunity to thank them for their hard work molding our young Naval Ensigns. Watching my sons first salute was a wonderful moment, i only wish my father had been alive to give it to share this with him, a real decorated hero. Those who have sons and daughters there, dont worry about them, they are in great and caring hands, and they will come out changed men and women that you can be unbelievably proud of. Go Navy.
