Navy Dads

Well the journey has begun for our son. He shipped yesterday to begin his adventure in the Navy. He is continuing the family tradition as I am a retired Navy with 21 years of service and my wife is prior Navy and is currently still Active Air Force Reserves with 30 years starting her career as an E-1 and is now an O-4. I had the honor of witnessing his Mom enlist him as she is a Major (LCDR for the Navy folk). I look forward to attending his PIR as this March will mark 32 years since I attended the fine institution known as RTC Great Lakes. I'm glad to have come across this site and am thankful to those who put their time and effort into it.

Thank you, your wife and son for your commitment to service! You have a great family tradition.
Welcome Scott and thank you for your and your wife's service. This is a great community for many of us naval parents.

Jim that's what I've been told from a friend of mine who pushed boots 8 years ago. Looking forward to visiting it again. Even though I sure the changes are substantial it'll bring back some good memories. I've seen the video on Battle Stations 21, wish they had something like that when I went through.

You will not recognize RTC. Lots of major changes. Check out our videos about boot camp and especially the one about Battle Stations 21.

Thank you sir for the information. I'm sure I'll be picking all your brains as time gets closer to head to Great Lakes.

When we were there in May of 2008, only one of the old barracks was still standing. The others had just been raised and the ground still needed to be leveled and landscaped. We had to walk from the big lot near the Chapel through the visitor's center to get checked in, then to the drill hall. Now there is a parking garage next to the drill hall and you enter through a new gate directly across from the Metra station.

Well week one is down, hopefully P days are over and he has a complete division and can start 1-1 day on Monday Received his clothes yesterday so hopefully in the next couple of days we will get his Form letter so I can send him some mail. I know when I was at Great Lakes we always looked forward to mail as it was our source to the world outside of the walls of boot camp.
