No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Ron,

The address is as follows:

Ship 11 USS Kearsarge Div 332
3505 Sailor Drive
Great Lakes, IL 60088-3505

This is the address that I got from the recruiter and matches the address on the RTC website (minus the "USS Kearsarge").

Ron- let me be clear---- IT IS NOT OUR LIST! We have only posted the link to the offical Great Lakes Recruiting Command site--- they generate the list, they make the changes. The only thing NavyDads has done is create a hyperlink to the official Great Lakes RTC site.

Ron, I used the address on the RTC site and never had any problems. Also, Holly said the proper way to address was
S.R. Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial.

I had 3 addresses for Molly, all letters got there, she sent em an address with a ship name and the RTC site had a ship number plus she had a building number and one of teh addresses had a street address, they all get there. I would use the one on the form letter that is sent home, remember last name first.... SR Last, First MI

That link is generated by RTC at Great Lakes....we only link to the site they post and update. As I've heard they are doing some construction there that mybe a reason for the difference. regardless...I think if you use one of the addresses, your sailor will get theri mail----I think the staff goes out of their way to get the mail delivered.

PIR tomorrow! That's great! Two of my sons best friends should be there tomorrow. One is in Div. 268, and the other 273...both ship 13. I know I will get an address soon, it's just frustrating...

HooYah David-- we're looking forward to pictures and thoughts about PIR after seeing your sailor walk in through that big door in the drill hall!

Tyler's recruiter is out of town, and the other recruiter that we know does not have access. We have not recieved a letter yet, only the "kid in a box". This sucks...
