No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Got a phone call from my son today. He sounded great. Said he has had no problem with BC so far (3 weeks in). only thing having a hard time with is making his rack. So proud of him.
Our girl cross trained 6 days a week for 5 months to be ready for bootcamp, she also was DEP (@ 6 months). In our 1st letter, she told us that the 1st physical test was easy for her, but half of her div failed. She said that it seems that some people had never worked out before, and you don't want to be in their shoes!
thank you rick yea my son is a gamer also and doing his dep time i feel like recruiter dropped the ball. he only had his dep meeting once a month and call in once a week i feel like when they are in dep maybe having a mentor would help them. i mean i pushed him but sometimes i felt like i was talking to the wall. I just think they should really stress the pt stuff in recruiter office and instead of once a month once a week would be better. just my 2 cents worth
Jim....being in DEP for any period of time makes the future SR's complacient...my son was in DEp for about 8 months while waiting to get his contract for NSO...besides his monthly DEP meetings, he also had to PST's monthly and pass...he was also expected to better the previous months times on his PST's..I constantly was "on" him to work out between these screenings but at the same time didn't want his last few weeks to be all about dad nagging him. He is/was a gamer so he could kill you with his thumbs. My son will now tell you that complaciency is a killer and you can never be in too good a shape. His division did more PT while in bootcamp but he still gained 11 lbs...tell your son to work out as often as he can because it will go far during bc....and he will feel better once the soreness is worked out...best of luck to you both and thank your son for his decision to serve...Hooyah!
Hey Bob, on the same schedule here. Dropped my son off yesterday - on his way to GL now.
well all i can say is there have been a lot of ups and downs in the last couple days here son ships on aug 7th for bc. found out last week that he needed to lose some weight so dealing with that plus the emotions of my son leaving and his emotions of leaving its been stressful lots of joy and tears. i think since he was in dep for a year it was a little to long to much time to think and stuff. But i am so proud of him and have accepted that this is a great path he has chosen
And so the adventure begins. We were in the same situation 6-7 weeks ago Bob. Now we are 2 days away from going to GL and 3 days from PIR and we are so excited to see our girl. The last 6 weeks flew by, we can't wait for Friday.
Our girl would love to be stationed in San Diego some day. Next up is Pensacola, but she hasn't seen her orders yet. Battlestations is this week, maybe she will get her orders after that. She wants us to bring her cell phone so she can use it for a couple of hours. She isn't sure yet if she can have it in Pensacola, or when she leaves for Pensacola.
Phil: Aren't those calls wonderful? Our daughter's home port is San Diego (and we're also on the West Coast) so we've had pretty good communications except during deployments/exercises. If your daughter has a cell phone, depending on her next school, you may want to take that along (and the CHARGER!). LOL! Congratulations!
