No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

To all you new Navy Dads: my wife and I just got back from a Tiger Cruise on the USS Carl Vinson. We sailed with our son from Pearl Harbor to San Diego. It was awesome. You will see how your son or daughter has grown up. I know it's a beginning for you all, but don't worry, the Navy will take care of your child and turn them into adults! Go Navy! Hooyah!

Thanks for the info, guys. As I mentioned at one point, we are rookies. And we are lucky to have found this site, and my wife joined Navy4Moms too.

Bill - Are you going to meet him at the Airport?

Just curious, since you live there, will he be able to collect single BAH?

Comment by BillG on June 9, 2012 at 8:14pm

Phil - NATTC is a much larger base than Corry and has the benefit of the Naval Aviation Museum as well as a chance to watch the Blue Angels practice, some times twice a week.

Thanks guys, I'm asking of course, because we live in Pensacola.

Comment by Craig on June 9, 2012 at 4:15pm

BillG - In the Pensacola airport there are signs that tell the sailors to report to the USO.  They will farm them out to either NAS Pensacola or to Corry Station.

Phil - Your daughter is a CTT Technical (6 year).  She will go to the USO, and they will get her to NATTC Pensacola which is located on NAS Pensacola.  At NATTC, she will learn basic electronics, then she will move over to Corry Station (which is about 8 miles down the road).

btw:  You got it wrong both times.  You needed to say "Her rating will be CTT".

fyi = she will be a CTT Technican (6 year), not an CTT Operator (4 year).

  • Rating is the job (AE, CTT, HM, YN).  You can also combine the paygrade with that (CTT3, HNSN, YNC, CTN2, HTSR).
  • Rate is Seaman, Petty Officer 3rd Class, Chief.
  • Pay Grade is E-3, E-5, E-8

btw: God knows why when you put bullets in front of the paragraphs that they become bigger fonts.

Craig - How do they get from Pensacola Airport to Corry? I assume they report to the USO.

Comment by Phil Shannon on June 8, 2012 at 10:02am

I guess I should have said "Her rate will be" in my last msg.

Comment by Phil Shannon on June 8, 2012 at 9:55am

Her rate is CTT-AEF, thanks for the info I didn't know that.

Comment by Craig on June 8, 2012 at 9:46am

Phil - Just remember, if she is going to be a CTM, or a CTT Technician, then she will be going to NATTC 1st.  NATTC is located on NAS Pensacola, not Corry Station.

CTT Operators go directly to Corry.
