No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

A Navy F18 jet has crashed in Virginia Beach, Virginia near Birdneck Road and 24th Street. Both pilots ejected from the jet before impact. Impact site is in an apartment complex. 2 people injured on ground.

Congradulations on all you that have PIR this week.  Word of advise be sure to attend the meet and greet when my son graduated we went to Sarg's and he was very informative and really wants to look after our SR's.

I hear exactly what you're saying Christian.  My son is there now and said the same thing...lol

And when I was there in 88, the letters meant EVERYTHING to me.....

Just an update on my site callsforrecruits.org.  I am thinking of adding photos of recruits that have received phone cards.  If you would like a picture of your recruit in the slideshow, email me the photo and I'll add it to slideshow......

This is for all of you whose sons or daughters are at GL, or will be there soon.

Contact the recruiter for your SR address. It could take 2 - 3 weeks for the form letter to get to you. Another 5 days could pass by the time your SR receives their letters from you. My SR (now SAILOR!)  left for GL on 1/31/12. My wife contacted his recruiter on 2/3/12 and was given his address.

Write as often as you can. My wife started writing our Sailor the night he left, as well as his girlfriend, and the two of them wrote every day. My sons' PIR was 3/30. I asked him what kind of impact the letters had. "I was ready to quit, untill the letters came".........I didn't write everyday, but at least 3 times per week. He enjoyed my "weekly Nascar" letter, where I would give him the highlights of the race.

Just make sure the letters are up beat. Nothing negative. Support your SR and their decision to join.

Hey Mike, You should see something any day. We received our letter today, but we only live 1-1/2 hrs away from Great Lakes.
