does anyone know how quickly after "a" school graduation, you could come home on leave? could it possibly be that day, or a few days? of course, considering you have orders to report in a month.

Yes, yes, yes!!!

My son did not get leave after A school. He did however, get leave after C school. He was caught in the bad weather in the northwest December of 2008. He arrived home 8 days later the expected and left early to report to his first duty station.

Did he come home the day of graduation, or a few days after? My son just graduated this morning. He said his name wasn't on the list to come home yet. Can this happen?

"A" School Graduation

Well, my son finally graduates from "A' school on April 9th, 2010. We are so proud. He will be stationed at San Diego, CA. He will be on the USS Sampson as a Operation Specialist. He is so excited! He did very well in "A" school, and got everything he requested. Does anyone out there have any idea when graduates get to come home? He has to report to post by May 29th. Tears, in my eyes

Posted on November 4, 2009 at 8:24pm 4 Comments

We had an early Thanksgiving for my son this past Sunday, since he is leaving for basic on Nov. 16. My brother- in- law gave thanks before we ate. I told him not to get emotional during his little speech. He told me thank he wouldn't. Well, this didn't happen. I looked to my left, and noticed his eyes tearing up. Then, I looked to my right, and saw my wifes eyes tearing up. I looked in front of me and noticed my sons eyes tearing up. As soon as I saw his, I just lost it. I could not stop. I had… Continue

Feeling Proud

Posted on September 21, 2009 at 9:40pm 1 Comment

I know I am new to navydads, but I feel so much better knowing that someone is there when i'm feeling down. Although my son Sean is leave for basic training on 11/16, I am preparing my feelings for his departure. We are a very close knit family and this will be the first time any of us have been away from each other. With your help, I know I can get through this. My son is so excited about his new adventure, and I am very proud of him.
Thank you navy dads.....................

Hey Eddie...PIR is truly right around the corner! Brian was able to get my wife and my ex's husband in through a shipmate, so we are all set for Friday! We are coming into Chicago on Thursday around 5:40 pm. I haven't heard about BS-21 as to any date or times, though it seems a lot of the members here are getting word from their kids. Perhaps we will get a call when they have completed BS, but I haven't heard anything so far. See you this Friday!

My son commented also about the RDC's, saying they practically "breath the F word"...but he seems to be adjusting fine. He said that after a while, the harsh rhetoric seems to be a bit scripted and it doesn't really bother him now. He said that he LOVES the food at RTC and said it was provided by Good Will. He said that the "lunch ladies" always put a smile on his face and he tries to get a good laugh in once a day since he has to keep a straight face the rest of the time. I hope to get a call from him in the near future. We will definitely have to meet up at PIR!

Glad to hear you received your first letter. It seems that the longer they are their the more opportunities they get to actually mail letters, Typically only Sundays to start depending on how well their group is doing and the RDC's they have. Sometime around week three they may be given an opportunity to call home (ours was 15 min). Breathe and relax it will get easier with time. Paul B.

I see your son is an Operations Specialist. I'm sure that my son and yours have gotten to know each other since they are on the same ship an division. In addition, my son was actually interested in an Operations Specialist job, but there were none available when he went to MEPS and he didn't want to get on a wait list. He ended up selecting a Sonar Technician job as it was an area that he thought would be interested in and they work very closely with Operations Specialists - even cross training in various duties and technologies.

Hang in there Eddie...PIR will be here before we know it!
