How often can sailors out at sea check their e-mails? Do they even have access and/or allowed the use of computers?Continue

NavyDads Co-Admin, Jim said… Hey Gary! Welcome back.
Kevin Glover said… Thank you Gary for your warm welcome to Navydads. I am so pleased to have a connection to resources for something so important to me and my wife. We are so proud of our son, but have so many unanswered questions and concerns. We feel so much more confident being new to this experience to have an option such as this. It is week 2 for us, we have not heard from him yet other than the initial information sent about graduation, where he wrote a small note on the back. That is when we received his address and of course immediately sent him a message and a Christmas card telling him how proud we are of him. It will be our first Holiday apart. I look forward to joining in and learning more!
john p crawford said… Thanks or the warm welcome. Nice to find this website. My son is returning from the middle east in two months. Miss him a a lot, but I'm so very proud of him, as I know all of you are of your children as well. Was looking for the forms for the tiger cruise... he sent me a link, but I can't seem to get it t work.
I think I have been there a few times. LOL!
Have fun! Maybe I will bump into you. I am taking my son there sometime in the next couple weeks to visit my friends that still work there. They are like family to us.
Bring a swim suit and a parka. It's very unpredictable especially lately. Sunny and hot one day and rainy the next but for the most part not too bad...mostly in the 60's though. Where are you staying in LA?
Will Wild said… Gary, still not working for me :-( Thanks for the help though.

Gary;
Thanks so much for the post. It means alot, any advice you can give is a plus. We are from Maryland and are starting to think about plans to attend graduation. Any advice on where to stay and is it best to fly into Chicago or Midway airport. Your son looks very proud to be a sailor. Im sure your a very proud dad. Thanks again for your words of wisdom and God Bless!

I wish your son the best in seeing the world. He picked the right branch of service to fulfill this. My son has been to San Diego a few times and after the first of the year he will be going to school there for Crew Served Weapons training for two weeks then back to Hawaii then back to SanDiego again inthe last week of Feb. first week in March for Crew Served Weapons Instructor training. So hopefully my wife and I can get down there for a couple of visits. He's also been to Japan twice getting a few days of liberty on the second time for he and his friends to take a train to a couple of different cities. Guam and Alaska were some other ports he has been to.

18 November 2011 Graduation Day (a.k.a. PIR) - We shuttled in and arrived at the main gate drop-off area roughly around 0700. As we made our way to entering the base, we were warmly greeted by courteous heavily armed MAs who checked our photo IDs. From there we walked a short distance to the graduation hall and at the door we were handed the graduation programs. They asked for our names, our sailor’s name and division number.
Our names were validated and checked off of the access…

It’s been almost eight weeks since our son entered the doors of the U.S. Navy RTC. Since day one, I’ve done nothing short of worrying non-stop about him all the time…
I just wanted to express my gratitude to his recruiter S. Sargent from the Navy Recruiting Station, Fairfield, CA and the entire team at RTC for giving him the opportunity to serve our country in the most awesome Navy in the world.
Bravo Zulu to all of the Sailors for a job well done Hoo-Yah!…

I’m happy to have received yet another letter from my son. As we all know with boot camp schedules, there’s no telling when you’ll get a letter or a phone call from your SR.
He is doing well and continues to focus and work hard to remain in the top ten percent. At this stage the “welcome to boot camp” culture shock is pretty much over. He’s passed the PFAs required to-date and told me that they were awarded the Athletic Flag. Though I really have no idea what this means, I do know…

With exactly three weeks left to go and a day for PIR, I’m feeling ever so anxious. I’m so anxious that I haven’t slept straight for weeks ever since my son left for boot camp.
I’d wake up in the middle of the night wondering how he’s doing, how he’s feeling and I still constantly worry but I always just hope for the best. I wish I had a Time Machine... Usually, I’ll have one of my “If I can only turn back time” moments, but in this case I wanna go full-throttle at warp speed…
