You're welcome. Glad you had a good time there. I'd go back to train recruits tomorrow if they'd let me!

I am not a recruiter but I spent 20 years in the Navy, the last three of which was at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes as a Recruit Division Commander (RDC). I may be able to answer a question or two...and if not - I'll tell you. :) So,…

Oh, OK. I actually went to boot camp and then BE/E in Orlando from May to October 1985. Then to ET "A" school in Great Lakes from November to July. Summer in Florida and winter in Great Lakes. Not a good start!

I was there when ships were made of wood and men were made of steel. LOL Actually, I was at Great Lakes for bootcamp and "A" school, August 1976 - March 1977. I was in company 76-936 Triple Threat and OS "A" school before it was…

Hi, Chief! Just to pick a small nit: RTC no longer has companies - they are now called divisions. This is in keeping with our terminology in the fleet. And because we don't have companies, we no longer have Company Commanders. We now have…

Marty, Boot Camp goes on even over the holidays. In the Navy we have what we call "Holiday Routine". Classes will not be held but depending on each company will determine what happens on Christmas. All will be allowed to attend a religious…

Because of the Wednesday Grad and holiday she had liberty thru sunday evening. My family attended the 0730 Church service with her and the recruits, Had breakfast and dropped her off at the Gurney Mall to spend the rest of her day with friends. Well worth the trip, It's definately updated since I was there in 1980.
She is going into week 2 of CS "A" School and received orders to the USS Abraham Lincoln, she can't wait.

I see that you are not a recruiter, but with your years of service, maybe you could shoot her a message and have a chat with her. I have a feeling that she has a lot of questions and I think you would be qualified to answer them.

Thank you for your service!

KastIron, Welcome Aboard!

My son is an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca. and my family and I couldn't be prouder of him. When he first enlisted I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit Navy families that follow behind me. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, and share info. Thank you for your service to this country and thanks again for joining us.

Sincerely, EG

Welcome to NavyDads KastIron! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun, useful, and educational as I have. Explore the site and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I certainly have! If you have any questions or concerns ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) recently returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And KastIron this is a great place to brag as well! So join in and let us know how you are doing! We do ask that you remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors in mind at all times. On the right side of every NavyDads page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link and the NavyDads Guidelines link. And stop by the NavyDads offical store- Navyoutfitters.com. Show your support for NavyDads by wearing the latest in NavyDads attire.

And thanks for joining and helping our members answer some of those questions about RTC! Heaven knows I had plenty when my two were at Great Lakes!! Best Regards- Paul
