Lee, we are probably not talking recruiter fraud here, or nothing that the recruiter is doing wrong, but maybe you could talk to some one in TN.

I am sorry to hear about your son's issue with recruiting. My recommendation? Since your son has graduated high school already, have him go to a different Navy recruiter. Is he set on being a CT or IS - otherwise, you might want to see if the SPEC-OPS recruiter/coordinator would be willing to work with y'all.

Let me give you the step-by-step process of how it SHOULD have gone for y'all.

1. EST (practice test) - if qualifying score (50 or above) proceed to step 2.
2. Paperwork to include form 2807-2 and supporting documentation for medical condition(s).
3. Since there are medical condition(s), recruiter should have sent the forms 680, 2807-2 and medical documentation to MEPS doctors.
4. If doctor's were ok with the documentation or would want to see him to evaluate then recruiter would have taken your son to MEPS for ASVAB and physical.
5. ASVAB the night before processing.
6. the morning of processing - applicant goes to medical floor and does his physical. (at this point if the doc's could not make a determination, then they would send your son to a consultation).
7. Consultation would prove 1 of 3 things:
a. fit for duty
b. not fit for duty
c. not sure and must go to medical review board in TN.
8. Medical review board will determine eligibility. Once this is done it is a done deal for medical.

Is this the way things happened for your son?


What I don't get is if your son never got to a physical, then how did they send the documentation up without it?

Why in the world did he participate in a DEP event, before he was medically cleared?
Where was the supervision and did you or he give them permission (written) for allowing him to PT?

Thanks for the info. I am wondering-did y'all fill out all the medical forms and get all the documentation from the hospital, doctor (to include doctor's notes and prognosis) and send those? Did you all get a reply within 3 days of sending the original documents to MEPS? The medical review normally does not happen unless the MEPS doctors have reviewed it first and given your recruiter some kind of word - it is one of the following 3 possibilities - "your recruit is cleared to join", "he is ok to come down and we can see what is going on" or "bring him down and after see him, he might need a consult" Did he get a medical consult from a military doctor yet?

Thanks for the question. I must have some more information though. You mention that he took the ASVAB, did he also go to the Medical Screening portion yet? Is he colorblind or have bad eyes? Is there any other medical condition from his youth?
