Kelly, they get a yearly uniform allowance. Anything else they spend money on (computers, civilian clothes, video games, etc...) would be on their own dime

Joe, get ready to relearn your world geography!  I now have a globe on my desk to keep up with all 3 of my sons (all in the navy).  At least my youngest is on a ship that actually has it's own Facebook page and the CO updates it with…

Wow, just got an 11 minute phone call from somewhere between Kuwait, the Horn of African and 3 or 4 other locations.  Sounds like our MA's are terribly undermanned.  The good news was that the wind has really kicked up and it is so…

Jim, Like everyone said, it will get better for her very soon. If you go to NAS, allow 1 full day at the Aviation Museum. We went with our son and his buddy one afternoon and did the IMAX experience while there. Also ate A LOT of good seafood!

Chris, I think we had the date by the end of the first week or beginning of the 2nd. You kind of have to REMIND him to find out for you!

Chris, My son had around 30. Judging by what we saw when we went down in June for the pinning, it looked like most classes were about the same size, give or take.

Wow, been a while since I checked in here! My son arrived in Bahrain early in August and after a week was sent out as part of a MSS. One of his pals is in a 3-star hotel in Dubai. My son is part of a small detachment, he said that at 1 a.m. 3 days…

Just back at the hotel from the pinning ceremony, pretty cool! The big disappointment for the new MA's is that it has been pouring rain all day and the OC day for the new class was cancelled and they did not get to walk past the newbies &…

Welcome to the cryptology group. Given the nature of their work we need to refrain from given out to much information. However, private communications re: languages, deployment, etc are OK.

Lowell, “Welcome Aboard”. I am glad that you have joined us. Check out some of the groups and some of the discussions that are going on. This site is for you to use and enjoy. We love to talk about our sailors around here and we have been known to brag on them a little. We are also here to support and encourage each other. After all we are all in this together. I have two sons and they are both in the military. My youngest joined the Air Force 5 years ago. My oldest joined the Navy and is stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72. Please thank Jesse for his service to this great country from an old Vietnam Vet. Thank you for raising a fine young man.

Welcome to NavyDads Lowell! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Lowell this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Jesse is doing!

As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. Thanks to one of our members we have two excellent videos that you can access from the Video area on the NavyDads.com main page: New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and New Bootcamp 2 of 2. These videos will answer many of your questions and concerns and will give you a better understanding of how the United States Navy transforms our children into sailors!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

Lowell, Welcome Aboard! I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Jesse for his service for me and thanks again for joining us.
Sincerely,EG
