You're welcome Charles!  As Dan commented, there are sometimes holds on getting into A-School.  There can be delays based on classes being full or waiting for enough sailors to fill a class.  Also, your son will attend two…

Describe a little about yourself:
I am a proud single mom of a sailor and a former Navy wife. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to be a part of the "Navy Family". I have many fond memories of the places we've lived in the U.S. and abroad and the friendships we made along the way.

Billy is my only child, so it has been difficult adjusting to having an empty nest at home. But, I am extremely proud of the decision my son has made to join the Navy. He is following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. All of whom served in the Navy.
What brought you to this site:
My son is currently serving
What were your feelings when your Sailor joined the Navy:
I couldn't be more proud of my son for the choices he has made in his life. Billy made the decision when he was a child that he would join the Navy and he never waivered from those goals.
Billy entered the DEP at the end of his junior year of H.S., so he and I both had plenty of time to prepare ourselves for this big journey he was about to undertake.

My Son, My Sailor, My Hero

Poem Written By:  Paige Robbins

September 2011

The years since your birth have come and gone in a hurry.

And even though you’re grown now, I still often worry.

I’ve watched you change from boy into a man,

Knowing it's one small part of God’s plan.

Always determined to be successful in life,

You set goals for yourself and follow them in strife.

Your unwavering…

Update on Billy

Posted on March 2, 2009 at 4:24pm 0 Comments

Billy will be on an airplane Friday leaving Great Lakes and heading for San Diego. He received orders for 4 different C-Schools for his IC rate. The schools will keep him busy until the end of Sept. and then he will report to his ship the destroyer USS Howard. He is very excited about these orders and is looking forward to being in a warm climate. He will also benefit by being about 6 1/2 to 7 hours drive from home.

Update on my sailor!

Posted on February 11, 2009 at 1:12pm 2 Comments

Billy is in Great Lakes finishing up on his last few weeks of A-School for his IC rate. He is doing really well and has been working extra hard at his studies in hopes of earning honor graduate. He should be receiving his orders soon and with any luck will get a C-School and duty assignment in San Diego. He's definitely ready to be in a much warmer climate for awhile.

Hello Paige! I am glad to hear from you. Congrats to Billy on his promotion. My son passed his first attempt at GM2 but didn't make the cut off. He was a little depressed but I told him there is always March 2012. Nick will be in the Navy 3 years in January and has only held the rank of GM3 for under a year. He was assigned to the Lake Erie but recently he has been on temporary assignment to Joint base Pearl Harbor. Supposedly around April he will return to the ship or receive orders to another command. Nick has expressed a desire to stay NAVY but we will see what the new year brings. Nick was on a 3 month cruise but the Erie is a test platform of sorts and usually stays in Hawaiian waters. Nick has no plans on coming home for the holidays. My wife and I have talked about going to Hawaii but have not made any plans. We just had a second grand child in Sept. Both my wife and I stay busy baby sitting five days a week. Paige thank you for the information and have a happy holiday.        Gary T.

Thanks Paige!!  The years are going by waaaaay too fast!!  Bet you are looking forward to seeing Billy.  Soak up those sea stories that he'll tell ya!!  Kat doing well...moving along in her schooling and Eric is doing generally ok...right now he has the "withouts"....without his wife...without his wheels...and without his dog!  And living in barracks!  He's on the list for Navy housing though so I'm sure all be be resolved over the next few months.....and I'm headed to SD next week in his SS to the VPC depot so the Navy can ship it to Hawaii.  Say hello to the sailor for me!!!

Hey there Paige girl...how are you doing?  Seems like ages since we talked!  Been crazy busy with work for the past several months...haven't even kept up with Julie very well...I have to change that!!  Eric on his way here right now...he's about 300 miles East of St Louis currently with his new bride on I-44!!  Knew he was getting married, but still came as a shock for some reason...guess that means I'm older than I thought!!  So am trying to re-arrange stuff in the guest room....I just have TOO MUCH STUFF!!!  Think he'll be here for about a week and then off to Hawaii to his new duty station....new job, new place to live and new bride....it'll be a busy year or two for him!!!  Kat going to the Seattle Institute of Art and Design.....studying interactive media.  How is Billy doing?  I used your most recent photo of him in the video I posted about a week ago....... Anyway...better get back to re-arranging furniture !!!

Hi and thanks for the welcome. We have been in Bagdad since 1987, I retired from the mine two years ago. Our son Michael has been in the Navy since 1994, I think. He has served aboard two Destroyers, USS Ingersoll and USS Momsen and an AOE USS Camden, with deployment to the Persian Gulf on all three ships.  He is a BM1, LPO of Deck Div. on Momsen at the present time. Enjoy Family Day. We have been on two Tiger Cruises, One on Ingersoll and one on Camden. They are a ball. Iwish we could have arranged to go this time, but the logistics would not allow.

I figured you were busy, so I thought I'd step in. Talked with Kia (her Mom did most of it) for a little over 15 minutes last night and then the line died. She later emailed they're had that happening, along with emails not moving sometimes. They're apparently on a 6-hour duty, 12-hour off, 6 on deal now, which she likes a lot, But she wrote she's trying to deal with one girl who takes every opportunity to snipe at her for anything. I told her to let it roll off her back & keep smiling, just do her best. You're lucky, but we may get a Tiger Cruise in the Spring.

Thank you! Yes, I'll check that site. I think we're wired in on navy.mil, but I hadn't heard of the other one. Yes, email is good - snowowl123@frontier.com - and if you wouldn't mind, also to her Mom, Jan at kanga123@frontier.com. We've always been a Winnie The Pooh family, and Kia was our Piglet. It started with my Son (different marriage) who the nurses (he was born with fluid on his lungs) said looked like Winnie and put up hand-drawn characters on his crib in the neo-natal intensive care unit where they brought him through the first 14 days of his life. He's now 35 and married. LOL! I am Tigger.

Thanks, Paige! That werkz. LOL! We (I) had a couple emails from her about an hour ago, and she was upset I mentioned one of the San Diego TV stations had a story and video on the ship leaving port. I told her to relax, because if the Navy PIO didn't want anything out, they would not have contacted the press. And she said a lot of people were seasick, but they're all doing better now on saltine crackers, a little water and keeping regular food down, too. Yo ho ho!
