Yeah, same here. My boy said many of the recruits were in very bad shape coming into bootcamp. He said his PT in A-school, although not as frequent, is much more demanding than the PT in bootcamp.

Jay - My boy found Bootcamp to be easier than he anticipated. He will do fine - August 21 will come very fast and then he will be off to A-school. I was unsure of what to expect for A-school because my kid was never a brainiac in High School. But,…

Hi Richard, To start with, enjoy the PIR. That sure makes a parent pround seeing there son or daughter marching in. As for Corpsman A school, these are some of my interpitation from talking with my son. He should make good use of the study time. He will be sharing a room with 2 other sailors, have him get the ground rules down right away with all them keeping the room clean and ready for inspection. Otherwise they will be standing extra watches. They get three chances on failing room inspections. One roommate fails they all fail. I hope he gets good room mates. My son had a few different ones over time, because of sailors dropping out. The school starts out freedom wise like BC but then they start getting more liberty time as they progress. I think they start getting the more liberty after the third test. My son had a cell phone and laptop during A school. He order a cable modem (Comcast) that he and his roommates split the cost on. $20 each. He lived in what they called the "crack house" because it was so run down. When he was on leave at Christmas, he said it was nice to take a warm shower because the crack house didn't have working hot water in 4 weeks. My son also volunteered to be in charge of the sailors standing watches (Chief of the watch?)in his building, this way he could study and not stand a watch. But he would also have to take care of the supervising and dole out punishment for not be on time and other things.

My daughter said it was a piece of cake for her and would have been fun if she had not been for being so tired . Its all about being ready for emergency and being prepared and alert to all around you and working together as a Team, very important! It is important that his division work together at BS . You will really like the lincolnshire. No hot tubs though which I wanted but oh well! My daughter still got to enjoy the bathtub instead of a shower! LOL

Well Richard, he is close to it as once he passes Battlestations he officially becomes a Sailor! Two weeks went by slow for me but I am a Mom and us Moms always worry about our Kids. Its harder when you do not hear from them for a while then the worry sets in but i got my plane ticket reserved my suite at the Lincolnshire in deerfield and got my Rental car set up with enterprise and got on that plane after not flying for 20 years and flew to great lakes and once arrived at the Airport in Midway went down to baggage picked up my bags and just sat there for a few hours waiting for that phone call as my daughter was one of the last divisions at battlestations before PIR. I prayed she would pass and then took a shuttle to my hotel and called Enterprise to bring my car and by noon they were there going over my papers for the rental car and I got the call from my daughter and she said mom I passed! Then I said great cause I am already here. She suddenly burst with Joy that I was there. Then she had to go. I got my prayers answered so was in bliss the whole weekend!

I also have a son in-law that has been a Corpsman for 13 years, he will also be at Pendleton starting the middle of this month and then for 3 years. It will sure be different this summer not having my son with fishing at the lake.

Richard, “Welcome Aboard”. I am glad that you have joined us. Check out some of the groups and some of the discussions that are going on. This site is for you to use and enjoy. We love to talk about our sailors around here and we have been known to brag on them a little. We are also here to support and encourage each other. After all we are all in this together. I have two sons and they are both in the military. My youngest joined the Air Force over 4 years ago. My oldest joined the Navy and is stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72. Please thank Nick for his service to this great country from an old Vietnam Vet. Thank you for your service as a law enforcement officer, which is a tough job. Thank you for raising a fine young man.

Richard, Welcome Aboard! I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Nick for his service for me and yours as well. Thanks again for joining us.
Sincerely,E.G.
