I am ex-Army and ex-firefighter. I have advanced degrees in emergency management and am semi-retired. The family lives in Central Virginia and I have 2 boys and 2 stepdaughters. My oldest boy is currently in Great Lakes for Basic (Sept 26).

Overall, I am happy he is moving on with his life. He worked for 4 years at an auto body right out of high school. I am going to miss him not being around and I am worried for his overall safety. I know he will be fine, It's just the parent in me.

Welcome aboard to NavyDads.com Douglas! When my son first enlisted, I was very scared and worried for him. Not coming from a military family at all, I had no idea what to expect. I had soon discovered that he had made the most mature decision of his life! I had lots of questions like I'm sure you do. We will be able to answer most, if not all, of you're questions. My son Stephen was an AWO2 in the P-3 community. However, after 6 years of service, he was medically discharged in July of 2014. We are so proud of our son and his service to our country. I'm sure you will feel that same pride for you're son or daughter! This is the place to brag!
