My son graduated from "A" school Oct 23rd and home for 15 days. It appears it would be 10, but if he works for 2 hours 5 days a week he gets 15 days, so he agreed to that. I am so excited to see him! Worried about how hard Power School is. I think that is next in Charleston, SC also. Some of our guys seem to be almost on the same time schedule. By the way, he has Verizon and we have no problem talking. Congrats to all "A" school Grads!! Let's keep it going!!

GP - I agree whole heartedly with you.........any call is a good call. My son just graduated from "A" school and is home for 10 days before starting power school........great having him home, but he is already missing some of his friends from school - shows they have made some good friends there - that is nice to know........THANKS to ALL that serve...we are very PROUD of you all

Lance and all the other parents out there. In the long run, regardless of cost or reception, ANY call home from our sailors is a damn good one! I know I appreciate them all!

Thanks for the info guys, but I guess it's a moot point. I just got a call yesterday that my son had already picked out a phone. He went out and picked up a Sprint Blackberry. I'm crossing my fingers, they don't have a great reputation. He said he got a great deal... I'm hoping.

My son has AT&T. He said there are a few bad areas, but not many. Sometimes when he calls from his room, it sounds like he's in a tunnel. Then other times, it's crystal clear. He said that soemone told him it has to do with all the miltary equipment in the area. When it's all up and running, the cell reception goes down. Thinking about it does seem to make sense.

My son had verizon also, just when he was in the dorms he had t o go out on the balcony to talk most of the time. But anywhere else it worked fine.

We have Verizon and our son has never had a problem with calls that we know of. He says it works just fine down there. When we visited this summer our phones also worked just fine.

My son recently entered the pipeline at GooseCreek, and I was checking various cell phone plans for him. It seems that all I can find in that area is complaints.
Does anyone know of any cell phone carriers that work well in the area? or is it just a dead zone?

What really sealed the deal was when after grad - we all went out to eat at a resturant. I nearly fell out of my chair when he offered to spring for the bill!!!!

I didn't let him though
