Dave, does the Navy actually consider Nuke Power School to be a "C" school now? When I went through, Power School and Prototype were considered "Advanced Training" but we were still able to attend a "C" School later on in our career (I went to Marine Diesel Maintenance "C" School, for example).

The reason I ask is that it would seem like treating Power School as a "C" School might prevent Nukes from attending the other "C" Schools available (such as AC&R, Diesel Maint., etc...)

I am very proud of her. She was the yeoman of her division during boot-camp time. Yes it is amazing to see how he has changed, much much stronger as a person, mentally and physically. I let her know this 5-day reward, hopefully she can bring a friend of hers to the Navy.

Dear all,
My daughter, a nuke MM, is finishing A school and will possibly come home for a short break, about a week , by the end of this month. I can't wait to see her.

Yes, Bob, I have been talking (and texting, hos preferred mode of communication!) with my Aaron every day. He is having a great time in GC and is learning to enjoy his new found freedom.

Aaron is an MM, and is still in the Indoc Division. He will class up on the 20th and spent his time this week on clean-up details, yardwork, and he was an usher at the Grad ceremony yesterday morning.

I was in for 8 years, so I have explained to him not to get impatient with the Navy, everything happens now on "Navy time." Funny, I also had a 93 ASVAB, and at the time I went through Nuke School, I was considered a "rock." : ) You are absolutely correct that the keys to success are hard work, discipline, and perseverance!

Have you heard from your Aaron yet? Mine loves Charlston. He has said they are pretty strict on them especially after they class up. Your extra study time is a direct result of how well you do there so it can go up and down with your grade. What rating is your son? Mine is in ET Just had his first test on Monday and got a 3.7 which is very good. Tell your son To hang in there if he doesn't class up right away My Aaron waited 3 weeks to class up. The other thing Aaron said was he felt pretty good about a 93 ASVAB until he got there and that was on the low side. But If they have the work ethic and desire they can make it

After my son, Aaron, graduated from Boot camp Friday morning, we saw him off at Midway on his way to GC early yesterday morning. I met a group of 15 soon-to-be Nukes headed for "A" school. I have seen a brief glimpse of the future of the Nuclear Navy and it looks very bright. Each of these young men was polite, respectful, intelligent and dedicated.

It appears that the Navy, in addition to providing more assistance and resources to help them get through their training, is also doing a much better job of screening appicants. The combination of the two is most likely the cause for the decreased attrition rates in Nuclear training.

If your son or daughter is headed down the path of NNPT, thank you! I am looking forward to working with them down the road, should they leave the Navy and join the civilian nuclear power industry!

TFJ, the percent that you give does sound more reasonable but my source of info came from the literature that is given to the kids before they even get to bootcamp. So of course the literature is going to make it sound better than it is. I know what you mean about stupidity. My son has told me about those sailors. What a waste, if these kids only knew the great opportunities they are throwing out the door. I am just keeping my fingers crossed for my son. I have alot of confidence in him and he has matured so much and also learned from seeing some of the stupid things that these kids have done. Thanks for the info.
