I didn't quite figure it out what my original question was why do some do weapons training and others do not.  More curious than anything else

I am glad you figured it  out, Cheri. Glad he is doing well. Have you found the Facebook page that each of the different Submarine Groups have ? Which ever Group your son is assigned to, you should look at all the info and discussions there, if…

Drew, to answer your question regarding what the sailors can indicate about returning to port = not much. They must be very vague, and only hint at the fact they may return. " Hope to see you soon " would such a hint. My son, a Radioman,…

I saw your posting above for the Sub School. I'm confused because Infornation Systems Tech school is not in Groton, CT??? It's actually taught at Corry Station in Pensacola, FL.

John, “Welcome Aboard”. I am glad that you have joined us. I see that you have joined a group. Check out some of the other groups and some of the discussions that are going on. This site is for you to use and enjoy. We love to talk about our sailors around here and we have been known to brag on them a little. We are also here to support and encourage each other. After all we are all in this together. I have two sons and they are both in the military. My youngest joined the Air Force over 4 years ago. My oldest joined the Navy and is stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72. Please thank John for his service to this great country from an old Vietnam Vet. Thank you for your service to this great country as well. Thank you for raising a fine young man.

Welcome to NavyDads John! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is on the second half of a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat recently returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And John this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how John is doing! and thank you for your service to our great country. Best Regards- Paul
